The town of Barano has a population of about 8500 people and an area of about 12 sq km. It occupies the southwest part of the island and consists of several agglomerations delicious ancient places on hills. The surroundings have autonomous history and traditions. The population of purely peasant origin was the need to create teams that were distant from the center to be closer to land to cultivate. It formed consequently, the villages of Piedimonte with districts of Matarace and Molara, Fiaiano, with the Testaccio quarters of Chiummano, Piano and Vatoliere, Buonopane and Schiappone with San Pancrazio. The municipality, who comes from Ischia, begins immediately after the Pilastri and continues to hills and mountains to reach the beautiful beach Maronti, at the foot of Testaccio, and then scatter between vegetation border with the City of Serrara Fontana. Barano has always been renowned for the fresh air and healthy that breathes for fertile valleys and abundant, for the beauty of the valleys and mountains, the spectacular views, the sources Olmitello and Nitrodi and cultural traditions. Barano are the summary of all forms of erosion that can be found in Italy. The main monuments are: the parish church of St. Sebastian, St. Rocco, parish church of St. John the Baptist church and parish of St. George. Folcloristica is the dance of Ndrezzata: ball pace and unbridled violence expressed by the dancers in the "fight", armed with mazzarielli and wooden swords. It takes place in the district of Buonopane “il lunedì dell’angelo” and at the feast of St. John the Baptist.
